The construction of the Matanda hospital began in 1956 according to the five-year plan. But the construction work had to be stopped during the events of independence (1960). The hospital faces several challenges: insufficient salaries, a minimal number of qualified staff, still meager self-financing, and the difficulty of obtaining supplies of pharmaceutical products remain. Despite these difficulties, common to the hospitals of the diocese of Butembo-Beni, the Matanda hospital is experiencing a large influx of patients from the city and the surrounding area.
