The HPGRB was founded in 1929, it served as a state hospital for the former province of Kivu (North Kivu, South Kivu and Maniema). The first extensions of this hospital date from 1945 under the direction of Dr. CAUNE, assisted by the Eastern Railway Company (SCFE), formerly called OTRACO (Congo Transport Office); it later became a Congolese hospital managed by the colonial state. In 1983, it was merged with the Bukavu Medical Clinic and both were called urban hospitals under the initiative of the then Regional Medical Inspector. The HPGRB is built in a residential style. It has 16 private pavilions with 22 private rooms with 2 beds for hospitalizations, two of which are used for consultations. Its theoretical capacity is 500 beds but only 350 are assembled. It hosts two main services: 1) Medical services transformed into departments since the introduction of the 3rd cycle at the UBC Faculty of Medicine; 2) Technical and administrative services
