Established in 1894 following a visit by Leprosy Mission founder Wellesley Bailey, Mawlamyine Christian Leprosy Hospital is only one of only three places in Myanmar where people can get leprosy treatment and the only place in the country where reconstructive surgery and pioneering ulcer treatment take place. the Mawlamyine Christian leprosy hospital is one of only two leprosy hospitals in Myanmar. The hospital provides physical therapy and special education classes each week for patients with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and developmental delays
