Livingstone is a general hospital and serves as a reference point for all the hospitals in the region, and for around 800 000 people. It also serves as a teaching site for the Mulungushi University School of Medicine, the Cavendish University School of Medicine, and various nursing schools. It houses the Livingstone Schools of Nursing. They also receive students for attachment and electives from within the country, and abroad.
The hospital has 325 bed capacity and offering services in Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology. They offer HIV treatment services for both adults and children. The hospital also has a dialysis Unit, and a neonatal unit, among others (and radiography and laboratory services internally).
