The Zambian-Italian Orthopaedic Hospital in Lusaka is an independent charitable institution providing free treatment of physically disabled children. The orthopedic team uses state of the art surgical techniques for the treatment of congenital and acquired musculo-skeletal abnormalities. The hospital is supported by a number of charitable organisations that make both monetary and component donations. Prostheses and othoses are manufactured on site in a special workshop. There is a well-equipped operatingtheatre with modern equipment for general anaesthesia,video arthroscopy and a new image intensifier. Anothertheatre for septic cases was opened this year.
