This hospital is located on 7.9 hectares of high land in the Manmunai North Divisional secretariat area of Batticaloa district. It was upgraded as a teaching hospital on November 17, 2006, to cater to the training needs of medical students of Faculty of Healthcare Science of Eastern University of Sri Lanka. Batticaloa Teaching Hospital is a government hospital in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. It is the leading hospital in the Eastern Province and is controlled by the central government in Colombo. The hospital is the only teaching hospital in the Eastern Province.
