Base Hospital Gampola is one of the main tertiary care medical intuition in Central province, Sri Lanka. It provides specialized health care services mainly to the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Kegalle Districts covering a population of 3,147,000. The Gampola Hospital was Established in 1925 and was upgraded to the level of Base Hospital in 1994. In the year 2002 it was upgraded to a Base Type B (Teaching) Hospital and the management was taken over by the Ministry of Health. The hospital is responsible for rendering advanced tertiary medical, surgical & rehabilitative services to the population concerned. It comprises 20 Units with 10 wards, Operation Theaters, Intensive Care Unit, Special Baby Care Unit for inpatient services. Dental, ETU (Emergency Treatment unit), OPD (Outpatient Department), Dialysis, Physiotherapy, Speech therapy, Occupational therapy service and specialized clinic services are also in the hospital. The Hospital Bed strength is 375 up to now. We have facilities carry out medical investigations such as X-Ray, Ultrasound Scan, ECG, Endoscopy, and Laboratory services The staff in duty comprise of around 750 members including 17 Medical Consultants provide quality, safety and productive health care services for the population. The hospital also provides teaching and training to Medical students and Allied health sciences students of University of Peradeniya.
