UBC Hospital opened in 1981 and is dedicated to providing subacute medical and surgical care. UBCH’s innovative programs and services focus on urgent care, short-stay scheduled surgery, extended care, brain research, diagnostic services and ambulatory clinics. The Urgent Care Centre provides care for non-life threatening emergencies, as well as one-stop care for minor emergency treatment. UBCH is one of British Columbia's foremost teaching and research facilities and is located on the campus of the University of British Columbia. Specialty areas at UBCH include subacute medicine, general surgery, reconstructive orthopedic surgery, psychiatry and gerontology.
