In 2004, CURE signed an agreement with the Zambian Ministry of Health to operate a pediatric teaching hospital specializing in the treatment and care of children living with physical disabilities. The Beit Trust, a UK-based charity, provided funding to support the construction of the hospital as a centennial gift to the people of Zambia. CURE Zambia opened in 2006. The CURE Children’s Hospital of Zambia is one of the few hospitals in the country able to adequately address the surgical needs of children with disabilities. The hospital campus comprises six buildings, housing 40 patient beds in the children’s ward. On the hospital grounds are a chapel and spiritual center, three operating theaters, an outpatient clinic, an administrative building, and a general services building. Medical services at the hospital are focused on pediatric orthopedics, ENT and reconstructive plastic surgery. CURE Zambia is addressing the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of children with treatable disabilities and their families through the work done at its hospital and various mobile clinics.
