Medical Volunteers for Internally Displaced Persons Camp (North-West Syria)Opportunity

Over the last two decades, Doctors Worldwide has deployed over 500 experienced healthcare professionals to get involved in our project activities or emergency medical responses overseas whenever there is an evident need to do so. We offer overseas deployments for medical volunteers ranging from 1 week to 3 months dependent on the project requirements.

Since the devastating earthquakes on Monday 6th February 2023, Doctors Worldwide’s team in Türkiye and Syria have been providing emergency relief and medical aid since day one. To date we have served over 165,000 people, as we continue to provide medical aid to hundreds every single day. 

In North West Syria, there has been serious destruction in the areas where our clinic is located in Afrin Jinderes, and for now there are about 3,000 deaths in total. In Azez Soran, it was shared that about 20 buildings were demolished. In Tal Abyad Suluq, there is no report indicating that buildings are damaged. Mainly the areas of need are Jinderes and Harim.

Right now:

1. We are providing primary health care, maternity, mental health, internal medicine and dental health services with 65 personnel in our medical centres.
2. We are the only clinic in the Jinderes IDP camps, which has now increased due to population displacement of earthquake victims. At least 700 additional tents were added and are at capacity with Syrians affected by the earthquake.
3. We are providing a psychologist and case worker to offer much needed psycho-social support for children and adults that is currently missing in the Jindires IDP camp/area.
4. We are working towards providing a safe space for indoor and outdoor play areas for children in Jindires IDP camp who currently have nowhere to play or go.

We seek medical professionals who have (desirable but not always essential): 

• Past experience in humanitarian responses or in development 

• Experience working in resource-limited medical environments

• Familiarity with Syria and Arabic

• Arabic language skills
