Focuses on restoring curable sight impairment worldwide by empowering local physicians and creating sustainable solutions.
Organization Description
1.1 billion of the world suffer from some kind of visual impairment and lack access to medical care. The W.H.O. states that vision is the gateway to every other Sustainable Development Goal. When you provide vision you provide quality education, fight poverty, eliminate hunger and aid in overall economic growth. As an added benefit, providing vision is the most cost-effective way to change someone's life.
Likewise, CharityVision International believes in empowering local in-country doctors and hospitals to make a sustainable difference in their own country. Many studies show that sending temporary foreign aid to countries, such as "fly-in" U.S doctors, can undermine a country's economy, neglect the necessary follow-up care to patients, and discourage sustainability for local doctors.
This organization, like many others, do have overhead. However, CharityVision keeps it to a very manageable and appropriate level. In addition to that, a few years ago they created a medical company that not only helps them to source equipment and supply needs, but generates its own income. The profits from this company covers the foundation's overhead. 100% of donations go directly towards fighting blindness worldwide.
