As the worldwide mission and development agency of The United Methodist Church, Global Ministries works with more than 300 hospitals and clinics around the world through its Global Health Unit.
Mission Volunteers are individuals or couples (ages 18 and up) who seek long-term partnerships with communities around the world and fund themselves. Mission Volunteer opportunities are diverse and range from working with refugees, children and youth to serving as a teacher, pastor, camp director or health care professional. The length of service ranges from two months to more than two years.
CURRENT SYNPOSIS – AFRICA PLACEMENTS
Kenya, Maua Methodist Hospital, Maua
Position #1: Nurse
Duration: Two months to two years
Estimated monthly living expenses: $700 which includes housing, meals and utilities. Visa and transportation costs are additional.
Work description: Work to support the various departments within the hospital, including the Community Health department and medical outreach clinics. The nurse will triage and take vitals, work at medical outreach clinics and a medical camp, and work as needed or related to a specialty.
Position #2: Medical Specialists such as dentists, general surgeons, OB/GYNs, laboratory technicians, physical therapists, ophthalmologists, general practitioners and family practice doctors.
Duration: Up to three months

Work description: The medical specialist will conduct ward rounds, specialized clinics, and work in theatre as the need arises; guide and mentor medical officer interns; conduct continuing education classes; and participate in daily morning handover reports.
Maua Methodist Hospital provides healthcare for a district of 800,000 people. It is the only full-service healthcare provider. Each month, we give lifesaving healthcare to inpatients, who have little or no funds. Many of these patients are orphans, abandoned children, and children of impoverished families.
This opportunity is located in Maua, Kenya.
The two official languages, English and Swahili, are used in varying degrees of fluency for communication with other populations.
