Transplant Links Community (TLC)
Provides hands-on training in kidney transplantation for surgeons, doctors, and nurses in low- and middle-income countries.
Overview
We are currently supporting emerging transplant units in Ghana, Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados, Papua New Guinea and Zimbabwe where we are working along side the surgeons, doctors, nurses, operating theatre technicians and nephrologists to deliver life-saving living kidney transplants whilst transferring skills. The goal is that eventually these developing countries will be able to offer their citizens the chance of returning to near normal life by receiving a kidney transplant. TLC has also provided support in other countries including Nigeria, Nepal and Egypt, and delivers an online symposia series which is open to healthcare professionals from any country.
Whilst much of the training we deliver takes place in situ, we also arrange placements and observerships for surgeons, doctors, nurses and transplant coordinators in the UK. These training opportunities allow healthcare professionals to immerse themselves in a busy, mature transplant unit, gaining a breadth of experiences that they can take back to their native unit.
Location
This opportunity is located in Ghana.
