Individuals, couples, groups and families: no matter what you’re looking for, we have a volunteer opportunity waiting for you.
The people we serve are largely the indigenous Chortí Maya, descendants of the great Maya city-state of Copán. Many of the families we work with live in extreme poverty, surviving on less than $1.25 a day with little access to healthcare.
Clinica la Esperanza invites students and people with medical training—such as Paramedics, Nurses, PAs, and Physicians—to volunteer or intern with our onsite physician. If you’re interested in building your career or learning about medicine in a developing country, come work with us!
Our clinic offers quality medical care to some of the poorest communities in Central America. Our patients are Chortí Maya Indians—direct descendants of the Maya, whose civilization dominated Mexico and Central America for thousands of years. Copán Ruinas, where our clinic is located, is a World Heritage Site with famous Mayan ruins located less than 800 yards from our front gate. Come visit us.
We ask that all volunteer medical professionals bring as many donated medical supplies as possible—we can provide a list of items that are needed. While this is not a requirement, it is a request among our supporters who may have access to medical supplies that their employers may wish to donate to third-world care providers to help others less fortunate. We are always happy to provide any cover letters needed to help our volunteers procure items for the clinic.

Most days, we get up early, have a group breakfast, load up equipment and supplies and our medical volunteers get started at the onsite clinic. Around noon, we all meet back up at the Hacienda for a homemade lunch.
You’ll have afternoons free to explore the sights and attractions of Copán Ruinas—you can check out the archeological sites and museums, tour the tropical bird park, or shop for the perfect souvenir to take home.
In the evening, we provide the best recommendations for dinner in town, plan for the next day, and get to know your fellow volunteers.
Your program fee is used 100% to keep our clinic operational and to purchase and deliver school supplies to classrooms. All volunteers pay the following rates:
single room – $105,
double room – $175,
triple room – $245,
quadruple room – $315,
which covers accommodation at Hacienda la Esperanza, two homemade meals per day (breakfast and lunch), and project-related transportation and gear. This does NOT cover travel costs, personal expenses, or additional meals and entertainment.
Your volunteer experience with us may be 100% tax deductible: Paramedics For Children is a 501c3 nonprofit organization (ID # 56-2142951).
If you sign up as a super supporter today we will give you a 100% credit on your annual donation towards the cost of staying with us as a volunteer. For example – our daily cost at this time for our donation program for one person in one room is $105 USD per day, and this includes your room and two homemade meals per day.
Let’s say you become a super supporter and start donation of $105 USD per month (by the way you can do less or more!). If you paid in $115 USD per month not only would you be a member of our team of donors, but you also would be earning one day of stay with us equal to the exact amount you donated per month.
Here is the math.
Let’s say you want to stay at the Hacienda La Esperanza for free this year and you make a donation of $85.00 USD per month as a super supporter. After 7 months of giving $85 USD per month, you would have a volunteer credit of $595.00 USD which equals to 5 days free stay at the Hacienda!
That is all there is to it. It is a simple program and a way that you can make your donation your vacation. It is a great way to have an adventure of a lifetime and do a lot of good for others in the process.
If you have any more questions just email us.
We encourage our volunteers to fundraise to cover trip expenses. Crowdsource it on a website like Volunteer Forever, or host a community event in your area that will not only raise important funds for your project, but help spread the word about Paramedics for Children’s programs as well.
This opportunity is located in Copan Ruinas, Honduras.
Our headquarters at Hacienda La Esperanza has four rooms with very nice accommodations. This is enough space for eight to 12 persons depending on the sleeping arrangements. Each room has its own full bath and an arrangement of twin or double beds.
