Provides modern cardiac therapy to indigent patients in the developing world.
Overview
Project Pacer has been very active in Bolivia, where we have worked for close to 30 years in collaboration with Viedma Hospital in the city of Cochabamba. In every trip we run a busy device clinic and perform numerous pacemaker, defibrillator and cardiac resynchronization therapy procedures in patients with Chagas's disease. A team of invasive cardiologists also evaluate and perform valvulosplasties in patients with rheumatic heart disease.
In addition, we study and treat patients with supra-ventricular arrhythmias who undergo electrophysiologic evaluation and radiofrequency ablation. There is continuous education to local physicians, cardiologists and medical students. All our trips to Cochabamba have been coordinated in conjunction with Dr. Oscar Ferrufino and the authorities of Viedma Hospital.
