Land and Sea Medical Outreach - Doctors, Nurses, Midwives
🇵🇬
Port Moresby, Papua New GuineaOpportunity provided by
Works in partnership with relevant national and provincial health authorities around a shared vision: healthy villages, and a healthy Papua New Guinea.
Overview
Delivering basic services in Papua New Guinea (PNG) poses enormous challenges with 84 percent of the population living in remote, rural areas. These communities are scattered over rugged terrain, complex river systems, vast expanses of ocean, and an extensive coastline – just a few hundred kilometres from Australia’s coast.
Over twelve years of field engagement, we have collaborated with key stakeholders in Papua New Guinea (PNG) to deliver nearly 2 million critical health and training services to some of the most remote communities in the world. Over the years, our operations have expanded to include land-based collaborative patrols, and a Port Moresby satellite campus.
The YWAM Medical Ships Port Moresby campus is on a waterfront property near Vabukori village, located five kilometres from Port Moresby’s city centre. The campus currently has accommodation for up to 50 people on site, with development currently underway to bring the accommodation capacity up to 100.
After consultation with community leaders, Central Provincial Health Authority, and district members, YWAM MS is collaboratively creating a new outreach model with the goal to multiply throughout the nation. The team on the boats are mutli-faceted, with activities including health education and services.
