BRIDGES TO COMMUNITY PUBLIC HEALTH TRIPS

Program Components

The public health discipline is of special significance to combat problems in rural regions, as it addresses social problems involving health and wellbeing specific to location and culture, and combines education, behavior change, and demand for community-wide participation for success. BTC collaborates with the regional health ministry, schools, and local leaders to create initiatives that will directly improve the well-being, sanitation, and lifestyle of communities. Sample activities include:

Itinerary
Day 1 You'll be met at the airport by BTC staff and transported to a hotel in Santo Domingo, where we will stay the night.

Day 2 After an orientation, we'll travel to the community (approx. 4 hours), stopping for lunch on the way. Once there, we will settle into our dorm accommodations and take a community tour.

Day 3 - 6 Each workday begins with breakfast at 7 am. From 8 am -12 pm, we will carry out an aspect of our program plan. After a 2-hour lunch break, we'll continue our work from 2 - 4 pm. Dinner is at 6 pm, followed by an evening activity.

Day 7 After breakfast, we'll head to the beach for the night for some well-earned rest and relaxation. This evening, we will wrap up our week with a Final Reflection.

Day 8 Our time together has come to an end! Your group will be accompanied to the airport by BTC staff.

Project Cost

The project cost covers all aspects of the coordination and staffing of your trip itinerary. The project must be paid in full 60 days before the date the group is set to travel to guarantee the itinerary. This cost can be divided evenly between trip participants or can be a group fundraising goal. The project fee covers:

Organization of project with community leaders
Coordination of paperwork with the Ministry of Health
Remote clinic and survey set up
Project equipment and supplies
Experienced and qualified team of staff and translators 24/7

Volunteer Fee

This fee is the individual cost per volunteer on a trip. This all-inclusive price includes:

Comprehensive trip planning, pre-departure information, 24-hour support
Fundraising support, including a fundraising webpage and additional materials to use for outreach
Airport welcome and transfers to and from the SD airport in the Dominican Republic
Private transport to the project and R&R locations
All meals and accommodations throughout the trip
International medical insurance
First aid kits on the worksite, CPR-certified staff, unlimited purified water
Beach trip and overnight stay
